2019 BMW X5 earns Top Safety Pick Plus

The 'good' headlights only come as an upgrade option.

The 2019 BMW X5 has joined the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick Plus club.

The redesigned X5 aced all six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver- and passenger-side small overlap tests, and has a superior-rated front crash prevention system.

The crossover earns a 'good' rating for headlights that come with the Executive trim or as an optional upgrade for other packages. Its base headlights earn a 'poor' rating, however, due to excessive glare from the low beams.

The X5 is the fourth model and third SUV from BMW to earn a 2019 IIHS safety award.
