2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC gets design tweaks, tech updates

Mercedes-Benz has given the GLC Coupe a mid-cycle face-lift to keep it looking and feeling fresh. The redesigned model receives subtle design tweaks on both ends, minor mechanical updates, and more tech features in the cabin.

The visual changes are minor at best. Look closely, and you'll notice stylists gave the grille a new-look design. They also used LEDs to make the lights on both ends look sharper. The bumpers have been restyled, too, but it takes a well-trained eye to tell the updated GLC Coupe apart from its predecessor.

Inside, Mercedes installed a 10.25-inch screen for its MBUX infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch display for the digital, driver-configurable instrument cluster. Upgrading to MBUX required replacing the rotary dial on the center console with a touchpad, and the GLC gains a steering wheel with the same touch-sensitive buttons seen in other members of the company's line-up, including the E-Class.

The passengers have five ways to navigate the infotainment system. They can poke the screen on the dashboard, use the aforementioned touchpad, access different menus by using the touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel, rely on the gesture/motion recognition technology, or give voice commands.

Power now comes from a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 255 horsepower -- 14 more than before -- and 273 pound-feet of torque. It spins the four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Additional engine options (including AMG-built units) will join the line-up later in the production run.

Mercedes-Benz will present the 2020 GLC Coupe during the 2019 New York auto show that opens its doors in April. Sales will begin in late 2019, and pricing information will be released in the weeks leading up to its on-sale date.
