DaimlerChrysler sells rights to Smart roadster, coupe

DaimlerChrysler announced today that it has agreed to sell the rights to the Smart roadster and coupe to British consortium "Project Kimber," headed by businessman David James. The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friday that outlines a plan to draw up a contract within the next few months. The deal will give Project Kimber the licence to redesign, produce and sell the former Smart models roadster and roadster-coupé under a different brand. Meanwhile, China Economic Net says Nanjing Automobile is unlikely to sell MG Rover to Mr. James. He reportedly hoped to use the MG Rover brand for the redesigned Smart roadster and coupe.
