BMW mulling two-door X4 crossover, expanding U.S. production?

BMW is considering offering a two-door version of its X3 crossover called the X4, according to Germany's Automobilwoche. If true, the report would suggest BMW has two new crossovers in the works. BMW has already admitted it has a Mercedes R-Class-competitor called the X6 in the works. No specific details were given on the X4. Meanwhile, the trade publication is also reporting that BMW will use its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina to build a third of its X3 crossovers. The remaining two thirds will be assembled at the automaker's Regensburg plant in Germany. U.S. assembly will help negate the risk of exchange rate instability.
