Spied: BMW M5 turbo, M7?
The BMW M5 has long been considered king-of-the-hill when it comes to high-performance large sedans. But with new entrants like the Mercedes E 63 and upcoming Audi RS6, BMW's crown has been challenged. To combat the M5's newest competitors, it appears as though BMW will offer a turbocharged version of its V10 powered car.
Photographers spotted an M5 prototype out for testing that had a few variations from the current car. On the front bumper are two additional air inlets. Also, there appears to be a gap between the kidney-shaped grill and the hood, indicating a taller engine profile from the current M5. Perhaps the biggest giveaway to what lies beneath the hood is what appears to be an intercooler in the lower portion of the car's front fascia. No details are known but the turbo M5 would no doubt equal or exceed the RS6's 580 horsepower.
Rumors are also circling that BMW is developing an M treatment for its next-generation 7-series. Recent photographs of the 7-series prototype reveal an air intake at the front hood as well as two air outlets at the back of the hood -- neither were seen on previous versions of the 7-series prototype.
