First Challenger sells for $400k; First ZR1 'Vette for $1 million

The first ever 2008 Dodge Challenger has been won at auction for $400,000. Perhaps even more amazing, the first Corvette ZR1 fetched $1,000,000. Both cars were auctioned at Barrett-Jackson this weekend, with funds going to the notMYkid and United Way charitable organizations, respectively.

The first production Dodge Challenger has not even been built yet, but that should happen shortly after the car is officially unveiled in three weeks at the Chicago Auto Show. The $400,000 figure dwarfs the expected MSRP of $37,995 for the SRT8 model. A plaque will firmly identify the car as number one.

Meanwhile, the first salable ZR1 has already been built and will go to collector Dave Ressler immediately. The million-dollar price tag is roughly ten times what a ZR1 will retail for. The ZR1 is the most powerful Corvette ever, delivering 620 horsepower. Ressler's car is painted Le Mans blue.
