Tesla Roadster production begins

After several months of setbacks and delays, Tesla has officially begun production of its all-electric Roadster. Tesla set a target date of March 17th for Roadster production back in January, but it was unclear if the electric automaker would actually be able to meet that goal.

Tesla will only build about one to five Roadsters per week during the initial startup phase as it works to build its retail and service centers in Los Angeles and Menlo Park. But by early next year, Tesla hopes to be producing about 100 Roadsters per month.

Tesla will produce about 600 examples of the Roadster in 2008, but all have already been spoken for.
