Buick freshens up its Chinese-market Excelle subcompact

Buick's Chinese division released official images of a refreshed 2009 Excelle subcompact ahead of its debut at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show later this month. The new car takes a page out of the larger Park Avenue's styling book, which is the flagship model in China based on Australia's Holden Statesman. The current Excelle is offered with either a 1.6 or 1.8 liter inline-four and it's expected the two will carry over to the 2009 model.

The car is built on a global platform GM made in conjunction with Daewoo, and has been sold as the Suzuki Forenza in the U.S. and the Chevrolet Optra in Canada, among other countries. It's also the same basic car as the Chevrolet Lacetti Top Gear uses for its 'stars in a reasonably priced car' segment.
