BMW recalls 200,000 3s, 5s and X3s

In response to a National Highway Safety Administration finding, BMW is recalling approximately 200,000 2004-06 vehicles because a malfunction with a deactivation system caused passenger airbags to not deploy in a crash.

NHTSA said that small cracks could develop in a seat weight detection mat installed in the front passenger seat in 2006 3-Series, 2004-06 5-Series and 2004-06 X3 vehicles. The malfunction would also turn on the "airbag off" light on the affected vehicles, according to NHTSA.
