Third Saab bidder revealed: Wyoming-based investor group

A group of Jackson, Wyoming, investors operating as Merbanco are apparently the long-unknown third bidders for Saab, according to a handful of reports out of Europe. Merbanco, which has apparently been in the running for a long time, is supposedly bidding against Swedish sports carmaker Koenigsegg and New York investor Ira Rennert's Renco Group.

There's not much information out there about Merbanco, which was named by the Financial Times this morning as the mysterious third bidder for Saab. Operating in Wyoming - a tax haven - Merbanco is run by a father and his two sons operating on the behalf of numerous investors.

Merbanco doesn't appear to have any automotive experience, though the firms it owns - few of which are household names - are generally long-term investments.

Fiat is still rumored to be interested in Saab, though apparently no formal bid has been made.
