Report: Audi pulls A1, next-gen A8 from Frankfurt show

This September's Frankfurt Motor Show will be light by at least two new model reveals as Audi has reportedly pulled its A1 mini car and next-generation A8 flagship sedan from the German show. Audi will instead use the Frankfurt show to display its new A5 Sportback.

According to Automobilwoche, Audi has officially pulled the A1 and new A8 from the Frankfurt Motor Show. No official reason has been given for the double no-show, but Audi will try to fill the void with the public debut of its all-new A5 Sportback. However, the Frankfurt show won't be the A5 Sportback's world debut as it is slated to be unveiled later this month at an Audi event in Germany.

The A1's show cancellation does put some doubt on Audi's small car program - as there is still no concrete launch date for the MINI competitor - but the next A8 is said to still be on track for a late 2010 launch. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler has hinted at a November reveal for the new A8, so expect to see Audi's next-generation flagship sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
