Chevrolet Aveo RS hot hatch concept coming to Detroit show

General Motors says that a sporty concept variant of the upcoming replacement for its Chevrolet Aveo will be on display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month to gauge interest in a hot hatch for the entry-level segment.

As we reported earlier this year, the redesigned Aveo, which shares virtually nothing but a name with the current Aveo, moves slightly up market to fill the void left by the Cobalt-replacing Cruze (which also moves up). Chevrolet will offer the all-new Spark as its entry-level model for buyers on a budget.

The Aveo RS will build on the more aggressive look of the redesigned standard Aveo by adding larger diameter wheels and fared fenders, as well as a thorough body kit.

The show car will be powered by GM's new 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbo powerplant that will also be on offer in the Cruze.
