BMW Motorsport announces 480hp Z4 GT3
BMW doesn't have any plans to produce an M edition of its current Z4 model, but those wanting the 4.0L V8 from the M3 in the body of the Z4 will have at least one option. BMW Motorsport has announced a Z4 GT3 model as a part of its customer racing program.
Intended for private racing teams, BMW will offer the Z4 GT3 to club racers beginning in 2010. The Z4 racing model complies with all GT3 regulations, opening the door to races such as the FIA GT3 European Championship, International GT Open and the ADAC GT Masters - as well as in 24-hour endurance races.
The Z4 GT3 uses a modified version of the M3's 4.0L V8 engine, developing 480 horsepower. The lone transmission option will be BMW's six-speed sequential unit. Other racing features in the package include rims with locking and safety clips, racing-spec ABS and optional air conditioning.
No other details were given - including images - but BMW will begin deliveries of the Z4 GT3 during the second quarter of 2010. Those wanting a track worthy Z4 will have to pay for it, though, as the Z4 GT3 will list from 298,000 euros - the equivalent of $426,500.
