Jay Leno samples "new" DeLorean DMC-12

Despite what the performance figures might say, the DeLorean DMC-12 remains one of the coolest cars to ever make production. Sure its V6 Peugeot-Renault-Volvo mutt engine wasn't anything to write home about, but just look at that stainless steel body - it's brilliant.

Thankfully, Steven Wynn purchased the rights to the DeLorean Motorcar Company a few years ago, essentially bringing the marque back from a three-decade dirt nap. Wynn now produces brand new DeLoreans from OEM spare parts in Texas, giving a younger generation a chance to experience the car made famous by the Back to the Future trilogy.

In addition to building brand new DeLoreans out of 30-year old parts, Wynn can also refurbish cars already on the road with a number of off-the-shelf new parts, ranging from new frames to new engines. Wynn says his company is even working on a new supercharger that will boost the 2.8L's output from 135 horsepower to a stout 250.

While we haven't been lucky enough to sample Wynn's work, TV personality -- and genuine car lover -- Jay Leno recently got the opportunity to sample the latest DMC-12 to roll out of DeLorean's Texas factory. Jay's impressions of the car seem right on point, and seeing the car in action makes us want one that much more.
