Ford celebrates 45 years atop the UK van market with special edition Transit SportVan

Ford's Transit SportVan has gone red in order to celebrate the van's 45th year as the UK's best-selling van.

Not to be outdone by its North American counterpart, Ford's Transit van is celebrating its 45th year as Britain's most popular van. Ford's E-Series van recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special 50th Anniversary Edition model.

In order to celebrate its rein atop the UK van market for the last 45 years, Ford has announced the launch of a special edition Transit model, with just 100 examples slated for production. The special model is based on the Transit SportVan.

Unlike other SportVan models, the limited edition model will feature Colorado Red paintwork with white hood stripes. The special model will also sport twin exhausts, 18-inch wheels with low profile rubber, front and rear lower spoilers, side skirts and accented wheel arches.

Inside, the new model is done up with velour trim, air conditioning, a six disc CD-player with remote steering-column-mounted controls, cruise control, power windows, powered and heated mirrors, leather steering wheel, tinted glass, leather gearshift knob and a perimeter alarm system. Those wanting even more features can opt for leather seats, a navigation system and LED lighting systems.

Power for the commemorative model will come from a 140 horsepower version of Ford's 2.2L TDCi engine, backed by a six-speed manual transmission.

The limited edition Transit model will go on sale in the UK later this month with a starting price of '£22,630.
