Land Rover adds sport to European Freelander lineup with special edition

Land Rover's Freelander 2 - aka the LR2 - gets a new styling package for 2011.

Land Rover's Freelander - sold in North America as the Land Rover LR2 - takes a few cues from its Range Rover Sport big brother for its latest special edition, the Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Limited Edition.

Unveiled this week at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy, the Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Limited Edition features most of the Freelander 2's new-for-2011 design updates and adds a few styling touches. The grille and side vents gain a black finish, while a new body kit gives the small 'ute a more aggressive appearance.

Three colors will be available, including black, white and an all-new Firenze Red (pictured). Special 19-inch Shadow Chrome alloy wheels, body colored trim and tinted windows round out the appearance.

Inside, two trim levels of black leather will be available with either contrasting stitching or a light highlight strip and piano black fascia trim replaces aluminum.

All models are powered by Land Rover's new diesel. The package will be offered exclusively in Europe, but it wouldn't surprise us if the special body kit makes its way to North America in one form or another in the future.
