Report: Fiat 500 Coupe Zagato headed for production

Fresh off its auto show debut, the Fiat 500 Coupe Zagato is reportedly headed to production.

Looking to fully take on MINI on its own turf, Fiat has reportedly given the green light to the 500 Coupe Zagato concept. The Fiat 500 Coupe Zagato made its world debut earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.

According to the latest report, the coupe's production plans were confirmed by Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne. It is expected that the Fiat 500 coupe will be built in Europe and kept to a limited production run.

The news comes just months before MINI launches a coupe version of its popular Cooper hatchback. Set for a summer launch, a concept version of the MINI coupe was shown almost two years ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show. However, the wait won't be as long for the 500 coupe as the project is said to be on the fast track.

It remains to be seen if the 500 coupe will be sold on our shores, but it's certainly a possibility. The 500's North American plant will be adding Abarth and electric models in the coming years, with the addition of another model not a far stretch.
