2012 Porsche 911 specs leak out

Details weren't scheduled to be revealed for a few more weeks, but an internet leak has spilled the beans on the 2012 Porsche 911.

Thanks to an internet leak, we have our first official details on the 2012 Porsche 911. The all new car - which has been seen in prototype form over the last few months -is expected to make its first public appearance at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The leak was provided by Car and Driver, which got a little ahead of itself with its August issue. The auto mag posted its latest issue online well before Porsche's scheduled 911 embargo date, revealing the car's full details.

The 2012 911 Carrera S will arrive with a 400 horsepower version of Porsche's 3.8L flat-six, representing a 15 horse bump. The base 911 Carrera will use the same 3.4L flat-six found in the Boxster S, netting 350 horsepower.

Porsche's seven-speed PDK transmission will be back for 2012, but the automaker will swap out its six-speed manual for a new seven-speed unit. No matter the gearbox, the 911 will be capable of sprinting from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.

The 2012 version will gain 2.5 inches in length, but its wheelbase will be extending by 4 inches. That extra length will allow Porsche to add a hybrid drivetrain to the 911 mix beginning in 2016.

Look for the 2012 Porsche 911 to hit dealerships in either late 2011 or early 2012.
