Ferrari CEO: I do not believe in electric cars

Ferrari's chief executive recently shared some strong words regarding electric cars - but was he wrong?

With the seemingly inevitable advancement towards the electrification of modern vehicles, at least one automaker head is taking a stand against the switch to purely electrified transportation.

During a recent red carpet event, Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemelo stopped to answer questions with Engadget, specifically in regards to what type of vehicle electrification can be expected from the exotic Italian automaker in the future. Montezemelo's reply? "You will never see a Ferrari electric because I don't believe in electric cars, because I don't think they represent an important step forward for pollution or C02 or the environment."

While Ferrari's CEO sees no future in pure electric cars, he did make a point to reiterate the fact that they are, "working very, very hard on [a] hybrid Ferrari." Montezemelo said in just a few years the first hybrid Ferrari will come to market, which was likely previewed with the Ferrari HY-KERS concept.
