Porsche previews 2012 911 7-Speed manual [Video]

A new video from Porsche shows the world's first 7-speed manual in action.

The familiar shape of the next-generation Porsche 911 belies the cutting edge technology it will employ, including the world's first seven-speed manual transmission. To sate the curiosity of enthusiasts and semi-drivers alike, Porsche has released a video previewing its newest transmission.

The seven speed, which is heavily based on Porsche's PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission, is described by the narrator as "puristic, direct and precise." The gearbox will utilize six normal gears for quick acceleration, as well as a extra-tall top gear for efficient high-speed cruising.

Orders for the new 911 officially begin on September 1, with deliveries to start on December 11, 2011, but until then the video below will have to do.
