Lotus City Car to hit U.S. dealers in 2013?

Lotus's City Car concept could arrive on U.S. soil by 2013.

Aston Martin says it is sold out of its Cygnet city car, but buyers looking for an ultra-premium small car may soon have another option. Lotus is reportedly moving forward with a production version of its City Car concept.

The City Car was one of six Lotus concept cars to debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, but it could be among the first to actually make production. According to a new report, the City Car could hit the United States market in 2013 as a 2014 model.

The City Car, which could make production as the Ethos, won't be cheap, though, carrying an estimated MSRP of $45,000. However, if the Cygnet is any kind of early indicator, there could be a section of the market willing to shell out 5-Series money for a premium small car.

The City Car debuted as a series hybrid, but Lotus is said to also be considering an all-electric version of the car. It remains possible Lotus could over hybrid and electric versions of the City Car to hit different price points.
