Aston Martin to update Rapide with more potent V12 from Vanquish
The Rapide is set to become more rapid.
While the Aston Martin Rapide is arguably the most gorgeous embodiment of the four-door coupe concept to-date, it's also outgunned by far less expensive rivals. However, a new report suggests that the Gaydon-based automaker has a fix in the works for that issue.
A more powerful version of Aston's venerable 5.9-liter V12 will soon find its way under the bonnet of the Rapide as part of a mild refresh, according to AutoCar. The mill will likely be the 565-horsepower variant found in the recently revealed Vanquish, although the output figures could differ slightly between the two cars.
Also expected to be part of the update are minor styling changes to the lights and bumpers. Given the evolutionary nature of Aston's design language in recent years, don't expect anything drastic, although a few Vanquish cues could be incorporated.
Interestingly, Autocar also reports that Aston will adopt a new marketing strategy for the revised car in response to disappointing initial sales. While the automaker currently highlights the (somewhat dubious) people-hauling capabilities of the Rapide, it will promote the new model as a sports car with additional space.
