Suzuki recalls 2,830 XL-7 crossovers over fire risk

GM recalled a number of mechanically related models back in October over the same issue.

Suzuki's United States arm may have declared bankruptcy, but that doesn't mean the automaker won't honor its customer safety obligations. American Suzuki has announced that it will call back 2,830 XL-7 crossovers from the 2007 model year to address a fuel pump issue that could pose a fire risk.

The problem behind the recall lies with the plastic supply or return port of the fuel pump module, which can crack and cause a fuel leak. Should that leaked fuel come into contact with an ignition source, it could kindle an incendiary incident.

The affected vehicles were manufactured from June 13, 2006, through December 22, 2006 and were originally sold or are currently registered in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Texas.

Suzuki has not yet announced a timetable for notifying owners, but dealers will replace the defective fuel pumps free of charge.

The Suzuki XL-7 recall follows a GM recall campaign, announced back in October, that stemmed from the same fuel pump fault. Two of the GM models involved in that recall, the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox and the 2007 Pontiac Torrent, share a platform and numerous other components with the XL-7.
