Volkswagen teases 2014 Golf R
The next Golf R will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
Volkswagen's performance-oriented R division has released a lone teaser of the next-gen Golf R that will bow at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
Continuing the tradition started by the R32 in 2002, the R-badged variant of the seventh-generation Golf will arrive with a powerful four-cylinder engine that will make use of a turbocharger to churn out around 290 horsepower, an increase of 20 ponies over the outgoing model.
Power will be sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, enabling the hot hatch to sprint from zero to 60 mph in about 5.3 seconds.
Expect the next-gen R to feature aggressive bumpers on both ends, wide alloy wheels and the two chromed exhaust pipes that have become one of the model's trademarks. It will ride on a lowered suspension and come with upgraded brakes on all four corners to help the driver keep the extra horses in check.
Scheduled to go on sale in early 2014, the Golf R will carry a base price of approximately €38,000 (roughly $51,000) in its home country of Germany.
More details about the range-topping Golf will be revealed in a little over two weeks.
