IIHS names 2013 Infiniti M "Top Safety Pick"

It may only be good for a few months, but the 2013 Infiniti M is an IIHS \"Top Safety Pick.\"

Infiniti's M luxury sedan has been named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2013 Infiniti M37 and M56 achieved the IIHS' top rating of "Good” in front, side, rollover, and rear crash tests, marking the second-straight year the luxury sedan has been given top honors across the board.

However, keen-eyed readers will notice that the Infiniti M didn't receive the IIHS' highest "Top Safety Pick+” designation. For whatever reason, the IIHS' didn't put the Infiniti M through its small overlap front test, which is required for the institute's highest ranking.

"Since they were first introduced, the Infiniti M37 and M56 have been showcases for Infiniti's advanced, user-focused technologies, including an array of safety features and systems," said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. "The IIHS 'Top Safety Pick' designation is important validation of our efforts in providing a performance luxury experience crafted to a higher standard."

Infiniti's marking department won't have long to tout the M's top safety performance, though. Infiniti is renaming its entire lineup for the 2014 model year, with the M scheduled to make the switch to the Q70 nameplate.
