Frankfurt LIVE: Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse
Lamborghini unveiled a race-inspired Gallardo in Frankfurt.
Lamborghini is bringing the feel of a racecar to the road with a new Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse model. The limited edition Gallardo is essentially a road legal version of the company's Gallardo Super Trofeo racecar.
Just like the Super Trofeo, the Squadra Corse (which shares its name with Lamborghini's recently-founded motorsports department) uses a 570 horsepower version of Lamborghini's V10. Other race-inspired features include a large rear wing - capable of generating three-times the downforce of the Gallardo's standard spoiler - and a removable engine hood with a quick-release system. Both the wing and engine hood are made of lightweight carbon fiber.
The Squadra Corse's body is made of mostly aluminum and carbon fiber, slashing more than 150 pounds from the Gallardo's curb weight. As a result, the Gallardo Squadra Corse can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed just shy of 199mph.
Standard carbon ceramic disc brakes ensure the Squadra Corse can properly scrub off that kind of speed.
The Gallardo Squadra Corse will be available in Giallo Midas (yellow), Bianco Monocerus (white), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and in Rosso Mars (red). The car's large rear wing will come finished in matte black while the Squadra Corse's hood, front air intakes, rear diffuser and 19-inch wheels will be done up in gloss black. Buyers can choose between red, black or yellow for the car's brake calipers.
Inside, the Squadra Corse features racing buckets and acres of Alcantara and carbon fiber trim.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse made its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Lamborghini will announce pricing closer to the car's on-sale date.
