Spied: Cadillac's Elmiraj-inspired flagship sedan
Cadillac is moving forward with a brand new range-topper.
Our spy photographers have sent us the first ever images of Cadillac's upcoming flagship sedan. Cadillac's S-Class fighter was previewed by the Elmiraj concept.
Though still clad in heavy camouflage, it's clear that Cadillac's upcoming range-topper will borrow most of its sleek styling cues from the Elmiraj concept rather than the somewhat bloated XTS. Underneath that stylish sheet metal resides GM's all-new rear-wheel drive Omega platform.
It remains to be seen what powertrains might wind up in the Caddy flagship, thought to be called the LTS, but a range of V6 and V8 gas engines seems likely. A V-performance version of the LTS would make a worthy rival for Mercedes' AMG-tuned S-Class models, but there has been no indication if such a vehicle is under consideration.
Although rear-wheel drive based, the LTS is likely to offer buyers the option of all-wheel drive. Given the harsh winter environment of GM's Canada proving grounds where this prototype was spotted, it's possible that this particular vehicle is fitted with AWD.
The LTS will initially launch as a four-door sedan, but Cadillac has not ruled out a flashy coupe that would essentially mirror the two-door Elmiraj concept.
Look for the Cadillac LTS to debut sometime next year as a 2016 model.
