AMG boss confirms Black Series treatment for AMG GT
A high-performance version of the Mercedes AMG GT is in the works.
A top Mercedes-Benz executive has confirmed plans for a hot-rodded version of the company's all-new AMG GT sports car that will be sold under the Black Series banner. Mercedes recently unveiled the AMG GT in both base and up-level S guises at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Rumors of a Black Series-tuned AMG GT have been floating around for weeks, but we now have official confirmation thanks to AMG head Tobias Moers.
"Sooner or later there will be a Black Series version,” he told Evo, referring to the AMG GT.
However, it will likely be a few years before we lay eyes on the AMG GT Black Series. Moers added that there will be other variants of the AMG GT launched before the Black Series makes production, including a convertible model. The AMG GT roadster is set to debut sometime next year, possibly at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mercedes typically waits until later in a vehicle's lifecycle to dole out the Black Series treatment, so it could be 2018 until we see the range-topping AMG GT model.
When it does finally land, the AMG GT Black Series will boast a more aggressive aero kit, race-tuned suspension and upgraded brakes. A boost in power over the AMG GT S' 503-horsepower is a certainty.
