Detroit LIVE: Infiniti Q60 Concept [Video]

The Q60 Concept previews the replacement for the aging Q60 coupe.

Infiniti has unveiled the Q60 Concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Billed as a close-to-production show car, the Q60 Concept accurately previews the replacement for the aging Q60 Coupe. It falls in line with Infiniti's latest design language thanks to sharp headlights, muscular ripples in the hood as well as a large radiator grille with mesh inserts and a large Infiniti emblem.

The sporty look continues past the front fascia with aerodynamic gills borrowed from the 560-horsepower Q50 Eau Rouge concept, a low roofline, pronounced haunches and two large exhaust pipes integrated into the rear bumper. 21-inch wheels whose design is inspired by the blades of jet turbines add a finishing touch to the low-slung appearance.

Inside, the Q60 offers room for four passengers on sport seats upholstered with several types of hand-quilted leather. The steering is commanded through a two-tone three-spoke multi-function wheel, while carbon fiber trim and a full touch-sensitive center console add to the premium ambiance.

Power for the Q60 concept comes from a twin-turbocharged direct-injected 3.0-liter V6 engine borrowed from the Q80 Inspiration concept that was presented in Paris last year. Precise performance specifications will be published at a later date.

Infiniti has not disclosed what the future holds for the concept but we wouldn't be surprised to see a toned-down version of it bow at a major auto show before the end of the year. Similarly, the automaker has confirmed that the 3.0-liter V6 will be available on regular-production models in the next few years.
