Volvo to expand Cross Country lineup
The new S60 Cross Country sedan will be first of many lifted models, according to executives
Volvo's new S60 Cross Country sedan may be the first of many new lifted models to join the company's lineup.
At least one executive claims to have been surprised by demand for existing Cross Country models and positive reactions to the new sedan, prompting the company to put more development effort behind the high-riding variants.
"We are starting to see sales growth of Cross Country models, and we are starting to really believe in the potential of the brand," Volvo product strategy VP Lex Kerssemakers said recently at the Detroit auto show, as quoted by Autocar.
The executive suggests the Cross Country models are being purchased by buyers who want some of the advantages of dedicated SUVs, but without the higher price tag.
"So long as Cross Country models have some capability - all-wheel drive, hill descent control - then they are giving customers what they want, and that is enough for them to be considered authentic," he added.
The company has not yet disclosed specific details regarding its future Cross Country product roadmap.
