China's Chang'an teases Shanghai-bound concept
Chang\'an\'s upcoming EV is reportedly as fast as a Porsche Panamera Turbo
China's state-owned Chang'an Auto has published a dark teaser image to preview a yet-unnamed all-electric four-door coupe. The EV is scheduled to greet the public for the first time in a little over a week at the biennial Shanghai Motor Show.
The teaser image reveals little but it suggests that the coupe wears an aggressive, almost supercar-like design with thin, upswept LED headlights, an illuminated emblem and a deep front bumper with oversized air vents and LED daytime running lights. Chang'an has not revealed if the coupe is a concept or a production car, though the former seems overwhelmingly likely.
Power for the coupe comes from an electric drivetrain that pumps out 167 horsepower and 247 lb-ft. of instant torque. Additional technical details are not currently available but Chang'an boldly promises the EV is capable of reaching 62 mph in a little over four seconds, a figure that makes it roughly as fast as a Porsche Panamera Turbo.
The company has not revealed if the electric drivetrain was designed in-house or if it was developed with input from another automaker. Currently, Chang'an operates joint-ventures with Suzuki, Ford and PSA Peugeot-Citroën.
Chang'an will fully unveil its battery-powered four-door coupe online in the days leading up to the Shanghai Motor Show.
