VW introduces Gran Turismo-bound GTI-based concept [Video]
The GTI Supersport will likely be shown in Worthersee next month.
Volkswagen has introduced a new concept car called GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo.
Loosely based on the three-door version of the GTI, the concept is billed as a follow-up to the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo concept that was shown last year at the Los Angeles Motor Show. As expected, the muscular-looking coupe gains a deep rally-inspired front bumper with honeycomb inserts, vertical LED fog lights, model-specific LED tail lamps and two large air vents integrated into the hood.
Twin NACA ducts built into the roof panel feed air into the cockpit, while the rear end gets an oversized spoiler, round exhaust outlets and a carbon fiber air diffuser. The concept rides noticeably lower than a stock GTI, indicating that the suspension has been thoroughly revised to obtain a more responsive ride and to lower the center of gravity.
The concept packs a VR6 TSI engine that sends 503 virtual ponies and 490 lb-ft. of digital torque to all four wheels via a dual-clutch DSG transmission and a sport-tuned version of Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Volkswagen says its latest concept can reach 62 mph from a stop in 3.6 seconds and go on to a top speed of nearly 190 mph.
The Volkswagen GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo will likely be shown in the metal at the annual Wörthersee show that will take place next month in Austria. It goes without saying that it will not be added to the Volkswagen lineup as-is, but gamers can already download it in Gran Turismo 6.
