Nissan Titan 'Truckumentary' highlights Cummins partnership [Video]
The latest promotional video focuses on the newly-developed Cummins 5.0-liter V8 diesel engine.
Nissan has released the sixth installment in its 'Truckumentary' video series highlighting the new Titan pickup.
The latest segment, appropriately titled "Diesel Goodness," focuses on the relationship between Nissan and engine maker Cummins, as both companies collaborated to develop the new 5.0-liter V8 engine that powers the 2016 Titan XD.
"This is not a direct replacement for a V8 gas engine or a V6 gas engine," says Nissan's product planning director for trucks and SUVs, Rich Miller. "This is an engine that is to be towing more, hauling more, and gets better fuel economy while towing and hauling."
The powerplant promises to deliver 310 horsepower and an impressive 555 lb-ft of torque, delivered via a six-speed automatic transmission. The configuration enables drivers to tow up to 12,000 pounds, with a 2,000-pound payload rating, all while reducing fuel consumption by an estimated 20 percent compared to equivalent gasoline-powered V8 engines.
Reflecting the importance of the diesel engine in the next-generation titan, the XD trim will arrive on the market ahead of the lesser gasoline-fed V6 and V8 packages.
