Spied: 2017 Audi SQ7
Audi is planning a sportier version of its latest Q7.
Audi has begun initial shakedown testing of its upcoming SQ7. Like other S-branded models in Audi's lineup, the SQ7 will stand as a hot-rodded version of the normal Q7 crossover.
Although not yet sporting its silver mirror caps, there are plenty of other giveaways that this is Audi's souped up SQ7. In addition to its track testing, this prototype also wears sporty wheels and tires and is finished at the back with quad exhaust outlets. The ‘SQ7' badge on the tachometer is also a dead giveaway.
It remains unknown which of Audi's engines will power the SQ7. However, last year Audi technical boss Ulrich Hackenberg revealed that the SQ7 would be the automaker's first vehicle to use an electric turbocharged. That innovation should eliminate turbo lag while also improving economy.
Rumors have been swirling that the SQ7 could get a diesel V8. But given the preference for gasoline engines in China and United States, Audi likely has at least one gas engine in mind for the SQ7.
Look for the Audi SQ7 to be unveiled later this year before going on sale in 2016.
