Ford highlights 'sounds of the Shelby GT350R' [Video]

The promotional video focuses on the exhaust note from Ford\'s all-new 5.2-liter engine with a flat-plane crank.

Ford has released a promotional video focusing on the Shelby GT350R Mustang's exhaust note.

"The all-new 5.2-liter V8 found in the Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustang has a unique, delicious engine note that will soon be terrorizing tracks around the country," the company notes.

The engine represents Ford's first use of a flat-plane crank. More common on Ferrari models and other supercars, the technology gives the engine a unique sound and enables a high redline -- potentially up to 8,250 rpm, if previous reports are accurate.

The 5.2-liter powerplant is also the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine in Ford's history, delivering at least 520 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. It is mated exclusively to a lightweight six-speed manual transmission.

The company will build just 37 examples of the GT3550R for the 2015 model year, but production numbers will be opened up for 2016. Prices for the lower GT350 package are expected to start around $47,870, while the track-ready R variant is said to fetch $61,370.
