Volkswagen introduces refreshed 2016 GLI
Range-topping Jetta gets new looks, options.
Volkswagen revealed its facelifted 2016 Jetta GLI Wednesday, announcing new standard and optional equipment and a revised look for the new model year.
The 2016 GLI borrows a handful of styling cues from the 2014 Edition 30 model, but dials up the aggression just a bit. Up front, a new bumper adorned with black strakes and a revised honeycomb grille sets the tone for the rest of the package.
Like the Edition 30, the 2016 GLI sports fender badging denoting its identity, but the mainstream offering sports the more subtle "Mallory" 18" wheels rather than the special model's 18" "Laguna."
There's more good news inside. While the Jetta lineup received a refresh for 2015, the 2016 GLI incorporates updated safety and connectivity options to the existing car's feature set.
All 2016 GLIs will come standard with VW's automatic Post-Collision Braking system. ICE upgrades include Volkswagen's MIB 2 infotainment system that incorporates Car-Net and, for the first time, USB connectivity options.
Volkswagen recently announced that it is updating its Car-Net app to include Apple Watch connectivity, which means owners will have access to remote locking and fuel level monitoring from their smartphones or wrists. Car-Net offers other convenience features, such as the ability to locate and provide directions the owner's car and remotely honk the horn to help locate it in a crowded lot or garage.
