2018 Buick Regal wagon confirmed?

The next-gen Regal could be Buick\'s first wagon in decades.

A new report finds the next generation of the Buick Regal will be offered as a station wagon for the first time ever.

The idea of a Regal wagon isn't entirely new. Opel, Buick's Germany-based sister division, sells its own version of the Regal as a station wagon (pictured) in Europe. However, the family-friendly body style has never been offered on our shores, where the wagon segment is small at best.

Enthusiast forum GM Inside News reports that the upcoming Buick Regal wagon was secretly shown during Buick-GMC's annual dealer meeting, an event that took place recently in Austin, Texas. Pictures aren't available so we don't know what it will look like, but earlier trademark filings suggest the long-roof Regal could wear the TourX nameplate.

We'll learn more about what the future has in store for the Buick Regal when Opel presents a brand new Insignia this fall during the Paris Auto Show. Closely related to Opel's flagship sedan, the next-gen Regal is tentatively scheduled to bow at next year's edition of the Detroit Auto Show, and it will go on sale shortly after as a 2018 model.

Nothing is official at this point, but the station wagon might trail the sedan by a few months.
