2017 Audi A3 lineup gets revised exterior, new features
Audi\'s small sedan gets a refresh.
On the heels of a refresh to its European lineup, Audi has released details of the 2017 Audi A3 and S3 family for the U.S. market. The 2017 refresh brings some styling changes along with some feature shuffling.
Since this isn't a full-on redesign, the changes are more evolutionary than revolutionary, but no model--not even the A3 Cabriolet, which may not be long for this world--was exempt from updates.
New looksThe exterior nip-and-tuck starts up front, where both A3 and S3 models get updated grilles (gloss on the A3; aluminum-look on the S3), new headlamps with an aggressive bottom cut line, standard LED tail lights and a slew of new wheel designs. The front and rear bumpers and aerodynamic finishers have also been redesigned.
Cabin upgradesThe interior changes to the 2017 A3 lineup are minor. Aside from the increased availability of some safety and convenience features (more on that below), the only noteworthy item in this category is a new set of six-way power adjustable front seats for the A3 Cabriolet.
Updated techThe real story here is Audi's virtual cockpit system. This 12.3-inch multi-function display system replaces the traditional cluster with configurable gauges and and high-resolution, high-framerate navigation menus. Smartphone integration (both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) and a retractable MMI display screen (not to be confused with the aforementioned virtual cockpit) round out the new infotainment offerings.
Audi's pre sense front is also now standard on A3 and S3 models and rear cross traffic aalert is now available as part of the side assist technology group.
What's next? The next announcement regarding the A3 should be its revised-for-2017 EPA fuel economy figures. Stay tuned for more information as the lineup's on-sale date approaches.
