Rinspeed previews Oasis autonomous EV concept for CES
The futuristic city car features a lounge-like interior with enormous roof-to-floor windows.
Rinspeed has previewed its latest unconventional concept, the Oasis, ahead of its public debut early next year at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The unique vehicle represents Rinspeed CEO Frank M. Rinderknecht's vision for autonomous technology in an urban setting, maximizing interior space while restraining exterior dimensions. Described as "kind of like a trendy buddy to Star Wars icon R2D2," with a near-zero turning radius to help navigate cramped parking spaces.
The interior showcases a revolutionary interpretation of the riding experience for a fully autonomous car. Eschewing the driver-focused layout of today's models, the Oasis aims to mimic the ambience of a family room with an armchair, television and enormous windows spanning from the roofline to the floor.
"'Oasis' can be commuting or shopping car in the morning, act as a 'micro delivery vehicle' for urban parcel services in the afternoon, and be a pizza taxi on the evening drive home," the company says.
The Oasis will be on display in Las Vegas for the January show.
