CES LIVE: Kia Niro EV Concept debuts
The concept apparently only shares its exterior styling with the Niro plug-in hybrid.
Kia has pulled the veil from its Niro EV Concept, one of several electric vehicle concepts on display at CES.
The EV is just a concept but Kia has already posted a specific range of 238 miles. Perhaps not coincidentally, 238 miles is the exact EPA range of the Chevrolet Bolt.
No longer needed to cool an internal combustion engine, the Niro's traditional grille has been swapped for a smooth interactive display panel.
Kia has distinguished the EV with an advanced pedestrian warning system that uses multiple front-view cameras, object recognition technology and front speakers to detect and alert pedestrians or cyclists of the car's presence. The system also uses the grille-mounted display to provide visual communication.
The Korean automaker promises to launch five new battery EVs among 16 advanced powertrain vehicles by 2025.
