Ford revives Mach 1 name for all-electric performance SUV

The modern Mach 1 apparently takes inspiration from both the Mustang and the Explorer.

Ford has confirmed plans to revive the Mach 1 name, not as a Mustang package but as a new all-electric performance SUV.

A teaser video shows the Mustang and Explorer entering the company's Team Edison workshop, hinting at the inspiration for the high-riding EV.

It is unclear if Mach 1 will be used as a dedicated nameplate or help identify a performance-oriented flagship package.

Whatever form it takes, the Mach 1 will be among 16 all-electric models arriving in Ford showrooms by 2023.
