Tesla Model 3 owner shares brutal crash on Reddit
Despite taking a hard hit, all occupants of the Model 3 escaped mostly unharmed.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to crash test the Tesla Model 3, but, judging from one owner's experience in a high-speed crash, the EV should ace anything the agency can throw at it.
Circumstances surrounding the crash are still a bit murky (the driver says they can't divulge too much information because they are still working with the insurance company on a settlement), but the driver of the Model 3 reportedly slammed into a parked car at about 60mph. Although the car was totaled, the driver and front passenger walked away with only minor injuries.
Pictures posted to Reddit by user Model_3_Crash_Dummy show a mangled Model 3 with a heavily damaged front end. Despite that obviously hard hit, the passenger's compartment of the vehicle appears to be almost entirely intact. The cabin is also nearly filled with deployed airbags.
The driver of the vehicle suffered an injured right ankle caused by their foot jamming the accelerator pedal. The passenger of the vehicle, however, sustained a much more concerning injury. According to the driver, the passenger's arm struck and shattered the Model 3's central screen, resulting in a pretty nasty cut. What appears to be blood can even be seen in one of the pictures. The driver noted that the shattered screen also prevented them from being able to open the Model 3's glove box to retrieve vehicle documents.
"My only complaint about this car is that during the crash my passenger's arm hit the screen and shattered it which prevented me from opening the glove box w/ title and insurance,” they wrote. "Needs a manual option. Also my passenger got a pretty big cut on her arm. Maybe add a screen airbag. All in all it is a phenomenal car and I owe my life to Tesla.”
The driver was so impressed with their Model 3's crash protection that they've already placed an order for another one.
