Rolls-Royce preps new ultra-exclusive model

The company is said to be targeting a single-digit production run, not quite as limited as the one-off Sweptail.

Rolls-Royce has confirmed plans to launch another ultra-exclusive model, with production expected to be capped at just a handful of units.

The one-off Sweptail (pictured) made headlines early last year with its rumored $13 million price tag. The car was commissioned by a customer seeking a tourer inspired by the sleek boattail speedsters of the Roaring Twenties.

As rivals focus on providing a higher level of exclusivity for their wealthiest buyers, Rolls-Royce plans to follow the Sweptail with a new model that will be limited to a single-digit production run, according to Autocar.

"It's the future of luxury," said company chief Torsten Müller-Ötvös at the Geneva Motor Show. "People don't want something others can get."

Looking ahead another two decades or more into the era of autonomous driving, Rolls-Royce hopes the top of the luxury market shifts back toward its coach-building roots with unique bodywork built on common chassis configurations.

In the meantime, the new ultra-exclusive model will be revealed in the "near future."
