2020 Polestar 2 teased ahead of Feb. 27 reveal

Watch out, Tesla.

Geely-owned Polestar has released another teaser image to preview the 2. As its name very clearly implies, the 2 will be the second car from Volvo's new sister company.

While the Polestar 1 -- which started life as a Volvo concept car -- will serve as the brand's halo model, the 2 will set the course the company will follow as it expands over the coming years. It will arrive as an all-electric model with a fastback-like silhouette that may borrow styling cues from the design-led 40.2 concept released in 2016. The teaser image hides the overall design; all it confirms is that the 2 will join the growing list of cars fitted with a rear light bar.

Polestar also published preliminary technical specifications. The 2's electric powertrain will deliver about 300 miles of range, and it will boast approximately 400 horsepower. The full and final specifications will be released in the coming months. It will also inaugurate the Android-powered infotainment system which will gradually spread across the Polestar and Volvo line-ups, and it will be the first car from either brand equipped with the in-car version of Google Assistant.

The Polestar 2 "will be sold in the Tesla Model 3 price range," according to the brand. It's unclear whether that refers to the $35,000 entry-level version we haven't seen yet or the more expensive variants Tesla has manufactured since the summer of 2018. Polestar will make the 2 available through a subscription service billed as a more premium version of Care by Volvo, though buyers who prefer to buy one outright will be able to.

Polestar will reveal the 2 online on February 27. Production will start either in late 2019 or in early 2020.
