Chevron stations hosting EVgo electric car chargers in California

The partnership is initially limited to five locations.

EVgo, a company that operates a growing network of electric vehicle chargers, has teamed up with Chevron to install charging stations at select gas stations in California. The partnership makes life more convenient for electric vehicle owners, while creating additional business opportunities for EVgo and Chevron.

Initially, five Chevron stations located in Los Angeles and San Francisco will host EVgo's chargers in the coming months. The quick chargers will range from 50 to 100 kilowatts in capacity, meaning they'll be able to get electric car owners back on the road in minutes. On its website, EVgo claims users who plug into one of its DC fast chargers can zap their battery pack with up to 75 miles of range in about 30 minutes.

Electric car owners might choose to read or nap while their car charges, but Chevron is undoubtedly hoping that they'll wander into the gas station for snacks and/or drinks. The prospect of additional revenue is enough to convince stations to give up two or three parking spots in the name of electric mobility.

Neither party has announced plans to expand the partnership outside of California. EVgo is present in 34 states, and Chevron operates in many of them, so we could see more electric car chargers at gas stations in the coming years.
