Dyson claims Honda rejected offer to share UK production facility

Honda has denied the allegation and the factory will be shuttered by 2021.

James Dyson is apparently sparring with Honda over failed negotiations to lease part of the Japanese automaker's UK factory to build Dyson's upcoming electric vehicle.

The billionaire entrepreneur and inventor has faced criticism in his home country after announcing plans to build the EV in Singapore rather than the UK.

In a letter sent to a politician and obtained by The Mail, Dyson apparently attempted to shift some of the blame to Honda. He claimed Honda was only using one of two assembly buildings at its Swindon plant but refused to rent the other to Dyson.

The prospective EV maker also considered repurposing a military barracks adjacent to its engineering campus in Hullavington. The Mail's report claims this option was dropped because the government could not make the facility available quickly enough.

Honda has broadly denied Dyson's claims, labeling the contents of his letter as "factually incorrect." The company is facing its own backlash in the country after announcing plans to shutter the Swindon plant that Dyson claimed it offered to rent.
