FCA recalls 690K more Ram pickups to repair tailgates
The tailgates are prone to dropping down while driving, allowing cargo to spill onto the road.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has expanded its Ram power tailgate recall, adding more than 690,000 vehicles from the 2013-2018 model years, according to CarComplaints.
The actuator limiter tabs used in the power locking tailgate are apparently prone to failure, which can allow the tailgate to drop unexpectedly while the vehicle is underway. The defect poses a safety threat to other motorists if cargo falls onto the road.
The initial recall campaigns focused on 1.4 million trucks from the 2015-2017 model years.
Service technicians will install stop blocks to limit the travel range of the pivot arms, preventing the locking rods from shifting out of position.
