Honda unveils "baby" NSX as Sport Vision Gran Turismo concept
The baby NSX is here, but it\'s not quite what we were hoping for.
Honda's "baby” NSX sports car has been officially revealed, but it's not quite the vehicle we were expecting.
Following leaked patent drawings and even spy shots of an apparent prototype being wheeled out of a transport truck in California, hope sprung eternal that Honda would actually build a smaller sports car in the same vein as the NSX super car. As it turns out, Honda did make the baby NSX, but there's a catch.
The car in question is actually the Honda Sports Vision Grand Turismo concept that the company virtually designed for then new Grand Turismo Sport video game. Although a disappointment, at least the car will be widely available to everyone.
According to Honda, the mid-engined concept is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder DOHC-VTEC engine producing 404 horsepower at 7,500rpm. Power is delivered to the wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The concept is crafted mostly out of carbon fiber, contributing to a curb weight of just 1,982 pounds. Honda didn't release any performance figures, but acceleration would be blistering with that kind of power-to-weight ratio.
Unfortunately, Honda has not announced any plans to transition the Sport Vision Gran Turismo concept from the virtual world to the real world.
