Pininfarina teases electric hypercar ahead of Geneva debut

The hypercar will be called Battista.

Automobili Pininfarina, the electric vehicle arm of the famed Italian design house, will unveil its first production model at next week's Geneva Motor Show.

Known as the Battista, Pininfarina's first production vehicle will take the form of a "luxury electric hypercar.” But beyond that, we don't know much about the battery-powered vehicle.

Pininfarina released a single teaser image of the Battista, revealing the car's intricate wheel design. There's also some serious braking hardware lurking beyond the wheel, hinting at the kind of blistering performance the Battista's electric drivetrain will provide.

"We wanted Battista to be very Italian, with sensual curves to give back a feeling of the cars of the '60s and the moment in time when sensual design in cars was to the fore and when Pininfarina really became iconic,” said Automobili Pininfarina's Design Director, Luca Borgogno. "The body form speaks this Italian language, with the details developed in collaboration with each car's owner adding the accents and personality.”

Pininfarina will have a sales staff on hand in Geneva for those interested in buying a Battista. However, potential buyers will have to wait a bit to take delivery of the newest electric hypercar on the block -- production isn't expected to begin until sometime in 2020.
