Aston Martin goes to Valhalla for next supercar name

The project 003 will be named for the mythical Norse hall of the slain.

Aston Martin's Project 003 could be named Valhalla. The name had a trademark application filed for it on October 12, 2018.

In Norse mythology, Valhalla was where the souls of those killed in combat went, accompanied by warrior women known as valkyries. In case you forgot, the project codenamed AM-RB 001 was eventually named the Valkyrie, while the AM-RB 002 was renamed the Valkyrie AMR Pro.

It makes sense, then, that project 003 would be christened Valhalla. While the Valkyries were developed in partnership with Red Bull Racing, the Valhalla is believed to be of Aston Martin's own creation.

The carmaker says that the 003 will be built a around a lightweight structure, likely with carbon fiber in the bodywork, and powered by a turbocharged hybrid engine, most likely a V6. The Valkyries, on the other hand, will run V12s. Aston Martin says that the 003 will be more practical than the Valkyries, with concessions such as space for luggage.

Only 500 will be made, with the first arriving in 2021.
